Post -- How do I get the Dowsing to Work??? --
Hi All,

I got the Learn Dowsing DVD Set about 1 month ago.
I have had 0 success so far.

Does Dowsing actually work??

Can someone please tell me how I can succeed with my Dowsing
using the Learn Dowsing DVD Set.

Has anyone had any successes with Dowsing on this Forum??
Thank you for your feedback.

Liam

Remember dowsing is the awareness of the resonance between you and the target you are searching for. It is subtle and there are many distractions that can override it. It takes practice to get into the proper mental state and remain there. Biofeedback devices like GSR (galvanic skin response) can help train your brain to go into the lower frequencies lower Alpha and upper Theta waves. Normally during daylight hours, visual and auditory input can bump you out of it. Meditation techniques like the Great Yogic Breath are as simple as slowly counting to five on you inhale (belly breath) and slowly count to five on your exhale. Do this for ten or twenty minutes each day and it can carry over into the rest of your day. Thing is most people want instant results. This is unlikely to happen until you can get some control over your brain. Meditation books talk about not expecting results for eight weeks.

Over analysis does the same problem. You analytic, logical left-side brain will destroy your attempts. Also emotional upsets, etc. Like they say, you can't take your emotional problems with you into the Alpha state--it just won't happen. Some people even talk about being in a state of Grace. I'm not sure this is totally necessary, but the idea is to have a clean conscious that is not pestering you.

Negative emotions like doubt, fear, etc., well I think you get the point. I heard about twenty percent of people cannot overcome their negativity.

Hi Locator,

Thanks for your feedback on my question.
Of course, state of mind is critical as it is in RV...

Very interesting about the 8-week time schedule.
I suppose it will take a little practise.

Regards,
Liam

Getting into and staying in the alpha brainwave state is something we all can work on. Like I say, if you peek you are going to get thrown out on what one dowser called "your education department". LOL. That's "You can't have your cake and eat it, too." I am certain most people do not realize what effort is needed to get to the very relaxed state. I think many people say "Okay, I'm relaxed, now hurry up with it will you?" Or another one is "That TV won't bother me."

I recall floating in the river with a life jacket on face down holding my breath. It was like I was an astronaut in outer space, weightless and moving very slowly. But my arms, everything just super relaxed.

I'm not trying to be critical, but it is obvious to me you are doing something wrong. Many people cannot stop thinking for five seconds. And another one is don't talk to your self. Speaking words is a left brain thing. Big no no.

Again I say you have to build your awareness of the subtle responses. Do you recall the feeling when someone calls you name? Something that subtle. Know thyself means know how your body responds. What about something that startles you? That's a lot stronger but it is a response. Don't expect anything that strong. Also if you are like me, I don't do good with a pendulum. One L-rod, just hold it off to the side when doing map work. And don't fixate on it. Your awareness should be on the search area for your target.

Something just came to my mind that might be of use to you. It is the subtle subconscious desires that can influence the accuracy. You might have heard of not dowsing for personal gain. It's not the personal gain part, it's the subconscious desire of it that beginners (and maybe some intermediate's, too) need to overcome. A good way is to practice on something that does not matter to you. Like a simple one could be flipping a coin and dowsing whether it is heads or tails. Once you learn how to do it then you can advance to more demanding tasks. But you will still need to be emotionally detached from the outcome. It doesn't just happen, you have to work at it. You can do it. As I say, practice and it will come to you.

I can even see how flipping a coin could create the subconscious desire that "I must get this right or I am a failure." And this goes back to the left brain thing of AOL.

Thanks again for the feedback locator.
I appreciate your advice.

I will just keep practising and focus on 'emotional detachment.'

Incidentally, does it matter whether I dowse with a Pendulum or L-Rods?

Liam

Before I studied the DVDs, I had never seen an L-Rod, and had never seen or heard how to use the Pendulum. I had seen those Y-sticks being used in Cowboy movies as a humorous prop. And, I recall one pre-school childhood memories of seeing my Dad doing something with a stick that might have been dowsing. But, I never tried it or saw it or learned it before.

For me, I found it was difficult to learn Pendulum and L-Rods. I had never tried any of that before, and had to practice a LOT to achieve a mediocre level of skill. Eventually, L-Rods became a little easier than the Pendulum, but I was NEVER natural with it. Just wasn't consistant.

What I finally settled on were a few traits that I had that seemed to be part of my "luck" over the years.

And, now that I have learned some things from Paul Smith's Basic RV class and his Associative RV class, Device-less Dowsing is easiest and most natural and consistent for me.

Regarding the traits that I had that seemed to be part of my "luck" over the years:

Long ago before I learned Dowsing and RV I used to be able to use a tingling in one particular area of one foot for getting yes/no clues. Lost that particular "lucky" trait when I became diabetic -- because both my feet were tingling ALL the time.

Which reminds me -- with the Pendulum and L-Rod one of the difficulties I had is that my physical stamina varied. So after a physically strenuous day or an emotionally exhausting day, my physical ability to swing the Pendulum or L-Rod just deteriorated. It was like trying to play a violin AFTER swinging an ax all day to chop and split 100 wagon-loads of fire wood. My body was just too tired. That's why I like the Device-less method.

If it works for you, use it. For me, I can feel the L-rod response without having to focus my attention on it.

As for the deviceless, I saw an article somewhere on the internet. They said very few people are able to do this. I would say it is something to try after you get some success with the pendulum or rod. It's all a matter of awareness. As for me, I use one L-rod and go deviceless with my left hand. Sort of a hybrid. LOL Probably a good idea to stick with one or the other at first. The down side of L-rod is it requires a bit more balance, whereas the pendulum is pulled down with gravity. And with an L-rod it is easier if you tip the end down a bit to stabilize it. The natural tendency is to hold it at level in order to try to get some kind of response and this makes it too touchy.
