I just got my DVDs today. I want to order a pendulum and some rods. I went to eBay and they show chains with lengths from 5 inches to 13 inches on different selections. The book mentions having a 6 inch chain. Is the length specifically important?

Should I assume that any dowsing rods I buy would be the appropriate size?

Chain length is according to your preference -- whatever seems comfortable and gives the pendulum a satisfactory swing. Some people prefer them quite short, while others like them somewhat longer. You may have to experiment a bit -- but that doesn't mean you have to buy a longer chain -- get one that is a bit longer, then try your fingers at different positions on it, keeping the rest of the chain in the palm of your hand while the pendulum swings below.

L-rods, too, can come in different sizes. But they tend to have similar aspect ratios of handle length to rod length, and that's the most important thing. Exact precision isn't important. As long as they feel well-balanced and swing freely, that's all you need.
